Twenty minutes from St Pancras, and a very different business mix to the one at the other end of the line. We work with St Albans consultancies, professional practices and independents from our Shoreditch office and on the ground when it helps.
AL1, AL2, AL3, AL4 and the surrounding Hertfordshire villages.
St Albans has an unusual concentration of one- and two-person consultancies run by people who used to hold senior roles in London — management consultants, IT contractors, marketing and HR specialists, architects and solicitors — alongside a genuinely strong independent retail and hospitality scene around the market and the city centre.
That mix throws up a particular set of questions: whether to trade through a company or personally, how to take money out efficiently once profits are consistent, IR35 status on contracts, and how to plan around a spouse or family member involved in the business. It is rarely complicated. It is frequently done badly.
We do not keep an office in St Albans — we are honest about that. We work remotely with Hertfordshire clients as standard, and travel up for onboarding, year-end and anything worth doing face to face. Thameslink makes it a short trip in either direction.
Everything runs in Xero, so the distance between us makes no difference to how current your books are.
Company or sole trader, salary and dividend planning, IR35 status on the contracts you actually sign, and a tax bill you know about in advance.
